Overview

Pashupatinath Temple, one of the holiest Hindu temples in Nepal, is located on both sides of the Bagmati River on the eastern outskirts of Kathmandu. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this temple holds immense spiritual significance and is the most important site for Shiva worship. Every year, thousands of Hindu pilgrims visit, seeking to spend their last days here, where they are cremated along the riverbanks. The sacred waters of the Bagmati River carry them toward their final journey, eventually merging with the holy Ganges River.

The temple is also believed to offer a unique spiritual benefit: those who pass away within its grounds are said to be reborn as humans, no matter their past karma. Astrologers at the temple predict the exact date of their death. If you’re drawn to places where the presence of death can be felt, Pashupatinath is a must-visit.
